Problem Solving

Cognitive Strategies are taught to the learners and therefore Problem solving software is sometimes associated with the cognitive learning Theory. It is defined as a more complicated and sophisticated type of learning and it cannot be compared to drill and practice exercises. In this case, student's can learn and improve their problem solving skills And problem solving requires certain inputs which does-not include simple memorization.

The main merit of Problem solving strategy is that it will promote learner's higher-order thinking skills like logic, reasoning, pattern recognition and strategies..

As learner's go on interacting with this kind of program, they gradually move from simple 'trial and error' to more logical and systematic thinking process.

Problem Solving software is similar to the simulation software where learners are placed in a situation where they often need to manipulate variables.

Integration with lessons.
  • In this program, the teacher should provide student's learning goals and a work schedule, and allow students the ample time to explore and interact with the software.
  • Initially the teacher must demonstrate the the problem solving procedures and then h/she should seek other different methods to solve the same problem using the software.
  • Teacher may let students to use the software in pairs of small groups and them to share the strategies they have used.
  • Teacher may need to transfer activities(i.e, excluding computer) or use pen or pencil tests.

  4. it seems that you have put in a lot of afford as your post suggest because it more detailed and precise and focus on the topics only. You did a great job by highlighted the merits and the ways how the students can use such program to enhance their learning. You also listed some of the suggestion regarding how to integrate these programs and software in the relevant lessons where it can be used.
